As part of our Innovative Muslims series, I will be profiling a company every month that is making a real difference in the community as a result of it’s products or services. Do contact me if you know of a company that should be included.
Cre8tive Pixels has long been at the forefront of creating beautiful designs for the benefit of muslim businesses and the community in general. Combining her keen eye and talent for accurately translating client briefs, sister Umme Ahmed has worked tirelessly to build her company from the ground up. Today, Cre8tive Pixels boasts clientele from household brands in the corporate world as well as smaller one-man-operation type businesses.
Asalam alaykum sister Umme Ahmed and thank you for taking the time to speak with us today. Could you share with us a little about the kind of services that Cre8tive Pixels offer.
Yes, walaykum salam. We specialise in brand development, corporate identity, web design, web graphics and printed media. My main tools are Adobe Illustrator CS3, Adobe Photoshop CS3, Adobe InDesign CS3, Adobe Flash CS4 Professional, HTML and CSS.
As well as having a deep understanding of brand Identity and advertising campaigns we can deliver fully comprehensive bespoke web design from sketch to fully functional and beautiful web pages.
Masha’Allah, how did you come up with the idea?
I am naturally drawn to all things creative, having dabbled in most creative hobbies/activities. That coupled with having an interest in computers, graphic design seemed to be the perfect fit for me. I started out creating a website and logo for my own startup Islamic women’s clothing website and then found myself creating logos and websites for friends, family and islamic charities/mosques. I started entering graphic contests on a national level and discovered that I wasn’t too bad having won over 70 contests for cash prizes. When I knew I was good enough, I started charging for projects and my business just took off from there. It was an ideal business for me as I am a mother of three and working from home is very important to me.
Wow over 70 contests masha’Allah! What are your other achievements to date?
Yes alhamdulillah, numerous graphic design contests on national levels, and all without any formal training in graphic design. Everything I know is self-taught. The greatest achievement for me is to successfully run a business without compromising family or my islamic principles. I can work flexibly from home and be close to my family who are my priority. I started this business five years ago and since then it has gone from strength to strength alhamdulillah.
I can understand what you mean about running your business without compromising personal values, that is quite an achievement indeed, masha’Allah. Ok so to finish off then, please tell us a little about yourself.
I studied up to university level and then worked as a teacher in the first islamic primary school in the UK for one year. I ran an online islamic womens clothing website for two years. I am a mother of three wonderful children masha’Allah. Oh and of course I operate a company called Cre8tive Pixels
Lol! Of course you do how can we forget. Thank you ever so much for sharing your time with us today and I hope it wasn’t too much of an ordeal for you
I pray that Allah continues to bestow every success upon you, ameen.
